In today’s world of flip-flops and sweatpants, we often forget that it wasn’t so very long ago when folks believed the clothes made the man. My grandmother met my grandfather when she was a buyer for the department store he managed in post-WWII, Washington D.C. To this day, she swears that she fell in love with him because, “He always wore a hat, and carried an umbrella every day – just in case.”
So, tip back your fedora, light up a stogie, and grab a scotch while we take a look at a few masculine accessories of yesteryear and the men who rocked them!
The 1950s “Rat Pack” of the above-pictured Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis, Jr. were well known for enjoying the finer things in life. They attended the hottest clubs, drank the best booze, and wore the finest clothes money could buy. They were also men who appreciated a truly nice piece of jewelry.
Sammy was especially fond of rings. One anecdote recalls the time that Elvis removed his own 52 carat black star sapphire ring during a Vegas show, and gifted it to his dear friend, Sammy Davis, Jr – who could often be found in attendance, standing on his seat applauding wildly.
Other stars of the era, like Clark Gable, preferred more subdued jewelry, like the simple pinky ring worn in the picture below.
Here are a few examples of some SuperJeweler men’s rings with all the glamour of Hollywood’s hay days – without the million dollar price tag!
A mid-century trend that’s been making a comeback are men’s bracelets. Unlike the more ornate and delicate bracelets that women prefer, men’s styles tend toward heavier, more industrial styles.
I don’t think the bracelets below, worn by Paul Newman, Elvis Presley, and Marlon Brando could ever be mistaken for feminine!
SJ has a fabulous selection of men’s bracelets with a wide range of designs and styles.
The men of the pre-tech era also tended toward functionality. Ladies may opt to be fashionably late…but a gentleman is always on time!
Despite having the time at our fingertips on our cells, laptops, and notebooks – there’s still something about a watch that says this man means business. Need evidence? Take a look at Sean Connery, Johnny Cash, and Michael Caine below. There’s no doubt that these men knew what time it was!
Happily, watches are another fashion accessory making a comeback for men and women! Click the image below to see more from our Octavius Collection!
Whether you’re President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, a comedy duo like Martin and Lewis, or an iconic pop-star by the name of Elvis Presley – one should never underestimate the importance of a good pen!
Now you can purchase quality keepsake pens from SuperJeweler for far less than you would pay at a brick and mortar jewelry store – they’re the perfect gift for any occasion!
If you’re inspired to spiff up your sweetheart’s wardrobe for Valentine’s Day, SuperJeweler carries a wide selection of items that are perfect for all the discerning gentlemen out there!

Class and style!
All these photos bring back memories of the movies of that era. Cary Grant was so dashing.
FYI… typo – should be Martin and Lewis not Martin and Dean!
Mens fashion was stylish and reserved but timeless. Great stuff
A good looking watch is a must have accessory for any well dressed man.
The fabulous rat pack
Great to see the classic fashions.
I always liked the style and thought it was very chic, when men wore hats!
Back when everything was simple and people got dressed. Back then they didn’t have websites like the people of walmart.
There is nothing like a Man that is very well dressed.
Love these good looking gentlemen!!
Carey Grant was at the zenith of men’s fashion for decades! Such incredible style and elegance-love love love!
Yep it was a simpler time then- but Cool! Love the Gold tone red faced Brigade Watch! :)

What wonderful accessories. I always loved watching the old movies with such dapper men.
Love all these guys and their jewelry!!!
I really love to see a guy with jewelry, whether it be an awesome watch, cool bracelet or chain-while I was born in the 60’s I remember these men well, as I watched many of their movies with my mom. They definitely don’t make them like that anymore ;) Those watches are amazing, hubby is a big watch fanatic… and I also like the figaro chain bracelet, very nice!
I Love that Mahogany pen!!!! (AND all of the men pics above!)
Sometimes less is definitely more. These men were the embodiment of class. Ah, the good o’l days.

really awesome..i like the style
Classic! Loved the style of that era…
In the days of Dean Martn, Bing Crosby, Elvis, Rock Hudson, Sammy Davis, etcetera, men dressed with style. Accessorizing for men was much more prominent then. Today we do not see so many men accessorizing with watches, bracelets, cufflinks, etcetera. It doesn’t seem as important for men to be as fashionable as they were in this era. In my personal opinion, dressing the way they dressed then was much more flattering and attractive than jeans hanging down to their knees and tee shirts that are two times too big for them. I am hoping this style will come back one day because I find it to be a much more attractive and flattering look.
These men are classics and I do like how they dressed. I would like to win this! Thanks for the chance!
these men were so sexy
Guys were dressed for succesd in the 90’s.
Wow- How I love they way they look! They were dressed to impress and impress they did. I would love to win this!

Some classic men’s styles here, they make it look so effortless.
Thats classy! I love stylish looking men!
Nice to see well dressed men. They are so hard to find now a days.
Some fine-looking men in those photos!
I have always thought bracelets on men were sexy.
In my generation I didn’t see very many men dress to the nines. But I definitely love to see a man in a nice suit with a classic statement piece of jewelry. You can tell that dressing to impress makes a big difference in how someone feels about themselves. But with Valentine’s day coming up I think this would be the perfect time to pull out my husband’s suit again.
I think all of those looks are very classy, and most definitely NOT feminine!! Thank you for the giveaway!!
I am so in love with Cary Grant. I watch every movie he’s in. He is so handsome.
I would love to win this for my leading man, my Cary Grant… (my handsome hubby)

Great article. Love that people can still appreciate watches. And also loved the pinky ring part. Now I know why my hubby was given one as a gift that looks just like the one on Dean. thnx! E
This is the lost art of classy dressing.I am old enough to remember when dressing up in this fashion was the norm.Maybe if enough of us dress this way it will once again be the norm.
Wow, if I had the money to dress like this every day I would…I’m not a shorts and flip-flops kinda guy…
The good ol days . These men all look terrific. Yum.
Great style back then.
Handsome, This would be the Perfect gift for my Handsome Husband. Incredible Giveaway =) Thank you for the chance =)
Great article- and the styles highlighted made me smile :) My fave are the pens and watches- just beautiful!
Classy men in vintage styles, great piece of info.. all the jewelery is very good too!
Thank you for the walk down memory lane. For some reason my mind wandered to James Dean and his bad boy style. Your watches are beautiful.
Want it for myself.
I love to see these golden days and lovey styles. How graceful they were in their time. Very elegant and decent looks..Really beautiful men.
Such a stylish and elegant era.

Oh, didn’t men seem more masculine? Love the topic!
I Remember these Styles, good ole Days. Thank You.
Mmmmm…when men were men!
Once in awhile you see a man in a fedora and I think it looks so nice. While jeans and T shirts are comfortable they aren’t as classy to look at.
I love it! So nice.
You carry pens! I’m so excited. I’m a pen collector. Will check it out.
they are so dapper and smooth
I wish men still wore jewelry like they used to (as long as it’s tasteful!).
For the older friends who saw these actors decades ago, this is a wonderful set of photos to trigger happy memories.
awesome Cheryl Germain

Can’t find men like this anymore sadly!

Lost in the past – but oh so sexy!
a man in a suit always looks boss!
Love the dapper men from the good old days!
they all look great
My hubby would so rock this!!!
What a fun read about the good old days. Would love this for my man!
All of these men were so stylish, clean cut, well groomed. Compared to today we see on men: stained tank tops, socks and sandals, ball caps turned backwards, pants hanging down, sweat pants, and tattoos coming out their ying yang, and piercings. My oh my, what has gone wrong with this world?
Would love to give my husband one of these fabulous gifts for his 50th birthday in two weeks. Classy!
Men who are well dressed definitely catch my eye! Wish more put in the effort, it never goes out of style!
I absolutely love the old styles for men. So attractive!
THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THE RATPACK REMINDING US OF WHAT MEN’S FASHION WAS LIKE, BACK IN THE DAY…….
clothes make the man
Great style clothes back then. I wonder if they had to iron a lot though.
The Turbulance watch is so nice!!

back when men used to dress like men, bring classy back.
The good olds. A very sexy loook to bring back.:) Meoww
I would love to get a luxury watch for my man he would so rock out blessed be super jeweler.
You had me at “Elvis”!
I love watching old movies…back when men where always dressed nicely…even if they were just lounging on the sofa. I’m so sick of seeing young men with their “way too big for them” jeans down below their butts. It was bad enough when you just saw the top 2-3 inches of their underpants…now you see the whole pair!
i love the fashions for men from back then. they were so suave and sophisticated. Now days it seems like your lucky if they can keeps their pants on over their hiney. LOL! most of the men and teens i know don’t even own a suit, let alone know how to dress up enough to wear one.
when i was growing up i remember that my Dad and Grandpa always had linen or cotton handkerchiefs in their pockets(dad still carries one), when i got married and we went to the tux rental he asked her if that should belong in my stuff. :( all i could think was how sad it was that we had fallen so far from good taste in mens fashion.
i always had a crush on the Dean Martin growing up, i thought he was so cool and most of that came from the way had carried himself and took pride in his appearance. i wish more men would do that today. :)
loved all the things Superjeweler had in the blog, they were beautiful.
