Calling all procrastinators! You know who you are – in fact, you and I have probably locked eyes at the mall on Christmas Eve, both frantically wondering how we let it happen again. Maybe we’ve bumped into one another rushing into the florist at two minutes to five on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, desperately begging the poor, harried clerk to PLEASE work in just one more delivery.
Tomorrow is Halloween and I’m betting you haven’t even thought about what you’re going to wear to that party. You know, the one you completely forgot you agreed to attend. Before you get desperate enough to poke a few extra holes in a black Hefty bag and call yourself a raisin, take a little inspiration from these five, last minute costumes – all featuring the same LBD.
LBD Witch
First up is an oldie but a goody! After all, what would Halloween be without witches? All that’s required to cast this spell is a few wardrobe staples paired with just the right accessories (from SuperJeweler, of course) and *poof* magic! A pair of tall boots and dramatic black wrap combine with this adorable fascinator (i.e. tiny hat) to create a solid foundation for a witch who’s wicked in all the right ways. Add to the drama with fishnet gloves, a skull bracelet from SuperJeweler, and a glitzy broom. All that’s left is to toss in a lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing (Lizard Pendant and Owl Earrings). Fire burn and cauldron bubble…watch out, here comes trouble!
The Cat’s Meow
If the witch costume feels too foreign to you, perhaps you’d be more familiar with this glamour puss. I’ve paired our LBD with another black cape – this time in faux suede – matching boots, and long satin gloves. This outfit was inspired by the lace cat ears and mask I found on Etsy. I added a sassy red bow to the tail, and check out those adorable cat ear tights. This kitten’s got claws! From SJ, I found an adorable fish bone love necklace, our black diamond cat ring, simple black spinel studs, and this bracelet with enough shiny baubles to fascinate any feline! Now, just grab your ball of yarn and favorite wee mousie, and you’re all set. Please, remember to catnip responsibly.
Little Red Vixen
Forget the woodsman – this little red vixen can take care of herself! This is the perfect costume for that Halloween bonfire. This time, our LBD is paired with red stockings, old fashioned black boots, and a gorgeous double breasted red cloak with faux fur trim. Hmmm…could it be big bad wolf fur? Keep those hands toasty with a matching pair of faux fur fingerless gloves. This is one Red Riding Hood who takes no prisoners – she’s wearing SJ’s machete pendant and a pair of edgy triple spike earrings. Forget toting a purse – just tuck your hatchet into your picnic basket and you’re good to go. Oh, and ladies? If you hear any wolf whistling… you know what to do.
Steampunk Vamp
Next up, we have a look I’m calling Steampunk Vamp. Steampunk is a science fiction subculture that marries early 20th century romantic aesthetics with technological fantasy, taking cues from both British Victorian era fashion and the American Wild West. I’ve paired this little black dress with a pair of chunky black boots decorated with ornate buckles, a feather trimmed shoulder cape, and a corset with brass closures (we all have one of those lying around, right?). The round flip up glasses, lace gloves, and top hat fascinator (by the way, you can find tons of DIY fascinators on Pinterest) are must haves for any authentic Steampunk Vampire. Since one of the hallmarks of Steampunk is the combination of Victorian frills and 19th century industrialism, I’ve chosen a gorgeous floral bib, ornate dangle earrings, and a funky geometrical cocktail ring to round out the accessories. Now all you need to do is pop in your fangs, grab your lace parasol and have a bloody good time!
Black Widow
Last but not least, we have our Black Widow. It’s such a shame – losing husband after husband…after husband. Even in mourning, a girl wants to look her best. I’ve given our poor widow a black lace cape and Victorian-inspired black lace pumps. In addition, she’s wearing black spider web tights and matching fingerless gloves. To round out her melancholy ensemble, I’ve accessorized with a pair of black and gold chandelier earrings, a gold toned double finger cross ring, skull bracelet, and a large vintage-inspired green and gold cathedral cross. Once she dons her veil and refills her favorite goblet (Henry), she’s ready for a night out. Maybe, she’ll meet someone new…
