Keeping the Bling in Your Ring

It’s said that diamonds are forever. Today we’re going to look at a few maintenance tips to help ensure that not only will your diamond rings last forever – they’ll look beautiful forever!

Routine Maintenance

Just like a doctor’s physical or dentist appointment, you should schedule regular check-ups for your diamond rings – especially the ones you wear the most like engagement rings and wedding bands. A good jeweler will check to make sure the mountings are tight and the prongs solid. If they’re loose or worn, make sure to have them repaired to ensure you don’t lose any of those precious gems!

Diamond Storage

Diamonds should always be stored properly when not being worn. Diamonds should be kept in a cloth lined jewelry box to avoid scratches and damage to the setting. It’s best to store each diamond item separately so as to avoid the diamond causing any damage to other, easily damaged jewels.

An Ounce of Prevention

As a rule, physical labor and diamond rings don’t mix well. SuperJeweler suggests you remove your diamond rings (as well as other fine jewelry) when working with your hands. This will prevent any damage to the gold, silver, or platinum setting. This will also help you to avoid the loosening of the setting due to rough treatment. In addition, it’s very important that you remove your jewelry before working with household chemicals. Many cleaning supplies can cause chemical reactions and discoloration to every part of your ring – including the diamond.
